17. september 2009: This is the story of T who networks me into interesting constellations. She has donated objects she´s been saving since she was a baby. The first object was a curtain T´s mother had crocheted when she was pregnant with her. It´s a weird thing to have something that is part of your history way back when you were a tadpole. Looking at T now it´s easy to imagine her in the blue silk as a teenager entering adulthood. T had the dress especially designed by a relative who was a tailor by trade. The daughter of the tailor was a telegrapher in the Norwegian merchant navy who bought the material in Singapore. Even now the garment is exotic and it tells me something about T as a person. She is open for new things and people and places. It´s probably not something she´s come to be but something she always has been. She wrapped herself in material from another continent, and fashioned it into something recognisable and acceptable to a teenager. Even as a teenager this dress said “I want to be part of the great wide world.” She works in Alna, which is just a tiny dot on the map but she works with the great wide world and all its challenges everyday.
